“Six overs cost us the game”: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill reveals the reason behind his team’s defeat against Punjab Kings

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was miffed with his teammates after Punjab Kings registered an 11-run win over them at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Chasing 244 runs, the visitors managed 232 in their allotted 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler hit fifties, but their efforts went in vain in the end.

Gill and Sai failed to connect the ball in the first three overs and managed just 17 runs. They faced a similar situation in the middle overs as well.

“We were not up to the mark in the fielding department. We dropped easy catches and let ourselves down. During the chase, we failed to score heavily in the first three overs and then three overs in the middle of our innings. We added around 30 runs.

“Those six overs cost us the game. Credit goes to them for the way they bowled. Vijaykumar executed his deliveries well, and the same was the case with other bowlers when it mattered the most,” he said.

PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer was adjudged the Player of the Match for scoring an unbeaten 97 runs off 42 balls, including 9 sixes and 5 fours. It was his first game for the new franchise, and he led from the front.
